My webhost is currently on PHP 5.5.31, should I install Laravel 5?

My webhost usually stays a few versions of PHP behind. At the current moment it is at 5.5.31 and I am not sure for how long. My question is, should I bother upgrading to Laravel 5.0 from 4.2 on this server? I have noticed Laravel has jumped up to 5.2 pretty quickly, so I am wondering if this quick jump was to fix errors in 5.0?

Is 5.0 more capable than 4.2? Obviously I would like to go higher, but I can't, because Laravel 5.1 and above need 5.5.9 or greater.
