How to protect laravel files and folder?

I am using Laravel for my development and suddenly I found that I can access my files from browser. That is kind of weird. Here, I place all my public directories files in the root directory. And when I click from the browser like mysite.com/app/Http/Kernel.php its showing me a blank page instead of showing error. Every file I can access by this. So is it normal or I am missing something. How to solve this problem. I tried to write with .htaccess but nothing helping me. Needs suggestion.
