Mixing Laravel and Wordpress User Info - Security Issues?

I recently developed a rough sketch proof of concept beta application that used Wordpress mainly because of all the membership options available to it. In hindsight, dealing with the existing theme made application UI development a real pain. I'm looking at developing the next version of the actual app with Laravel 5 instead, and using Wordpress for the sales / membership management side of things. The application would stand all on it's own (more or less how Adobe creative cloud works, the application doesn't have anything in it dealing with your billing, it has a totally separate UI, look, feel, etc.). The main idea is to simply allow Laravel to tap into the Wordpress users information to control app access. Are there any security issues doing this? I would prefer to keep the application database and wordpress database separate in every way possible, if possible. What is the best way to approach this?
