Should I have to use homestead if I am using laravel on Wamp server?

I'm new to Laravel and I'm trying to set it up with my WAMP server. I've downloaded composer and everything is set. Now I have just started my project so what should I do for connecting it to the database. I have watched video there they have used homestead.yaml file for setting the sites and database.
