Why are there no functions in php to duplicate whole directories that include files and sub-directories?

Is there any function that would copy an existing directory which contains multiple files and sub-directories filled with files?

I know php copy() functions only copies files. I also know that Laravel has a function called copyDirectory() but It doesn't seem to work at all.
