laravel 5 guard drivers, providers and explanation of auth.php

Someone please help me understand what is there in auth.php in laravel 5. it happens to contain some kind of guard drivers , some thing called providers etc. i could only find that guard determines how to fetch information from the database but what exactly does it mean. What are guards, providers and passwords section in auth.php in good detail to understand the concept
