What is repository pattern in programming? [duplicate]

why should I use it in object-oriented programming? I am planning a big web-app with Laravel Vue, TypeScript and Blade Engine. I'm doing research everywhere and it says to use repository pattern but I don't see anything specially for Laravel or PHP? Can someone explain with an example and why it is a good idea to use it?
